“Teaching yoga to children in Newark, especially at my alma mater, Ridge Street School, has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. It truly is the best job ever.”

Kim, Yoga Guide

Join us as a yoga guide!

We're fortunate to have wonderful, dedicated teachers.  All Newark Yoga Movement teachers are certified yoga teachers, many with 500+ hours.  All have liability insurance.  A common theme among them is their endless care and love for revealing children's gifts.  We like having teachers in the pipeline assisting and co-teaching classes to get them ready to teach on their own as more classes are added.

Interested in teaching for us in a school and/or our community classes? Learn more including paid seva.

When you come work with NYM, you won’t teach your own class until you are ready.  Everybody who works with us starts by assisting classes and then progresses to co-teach with one of our senior yoga guides.  When you are ready, you teach your own class with our assistance.  Once we all feel you are ready, you get your own classes and are paid for your services.  We call it paid seva.  Seva is charity and what you are doing in working with us, is selfless and important and needed work.  You get paid $30/hour of teaching (details prior to teaching).  Also before you start teaching you get a set of our carefully crafted FAQ’s so you are fully prepared at all times.

NYM is a dynamic, all-inclusive fun community serving the community.  If you are a yoga teacher or yoga enthusiast and want to work or volunteer with us, please fill out the form.  All yoga teachers must be 200-hour certified and have their own liability insurance once you start teaching for us on your own.  You will never be thrown into a school or situation without having experience first.

  • All teachers and volunteers start with a phone or in person chat.

  • Then we set you up in a school to volunteer/teach in based on your interest and availability. We are always cognizant of your time.

  • Teachers assist and then move on to co-teaching a class with an experienced NYM teacher. If you are volunteering, you’ll continue to assist and are free to request other schools, age ranges and situations.

  • Last step before teaching a class on your own is teaching a full class with a NYM teacher assisting you. This process varies and depends on the comfort and experience of the teacher.

  • Upon completion of this process, teachers get their own class and begin receiving paid seva (charity) of $30/ hour of teaching.

  • Have another talent you’d like to share with us? Marketing? Social Media? Fund Raising? Office Space? Please note that on your form and we will take you up on it.

Want to take a kids training?  Anyone can whether you are volunteering or already a yoga teacher.  Read about our partnership with Grounded.

Training

We are not saying you must be kids trained to be a yoga guide in a school but it certainly does help to learn the nuances.  There are lots of kids training out there.  We resonate with Grounded.   For training dates, check out their site and stay posted for when there is a Grounded training in NJ.  You don’t need to have 95 hours but we do encourage you to take at least the first 22-hour level.  It’s sooooo good.
